Who plows which road? Local Town Manager breaks it down
GEORGETOWN, Del. – We’re two days removed from the snowstorm that dumped several inches of snow on cities and towns across Delmarva.
In Georgetown, Public Works and DelDOT were quick to pre-treat roads. Town manager, Gene Dvornick said each key player has stayed on top of plowing.
“If it’s state maintained, then DelDOT takes care of it,” Dvornick said. “Those are North and South Bedford Street and East and West Market Streets. All the other side streets that come off of those major arteries are town maintained.”
For the first major snowfall in 3 years, Dvornick said residents have been gracious.
“Overall, I think the residents have been very pleased with the work that the Public Works Department’s done in clearing snow,” Dvornick said.
Residents like Sky Brady have been patient with the whole ordeal, understanding that it’ll take some time to get all the roads cleared.
“I think the main roads, in all the years I’ve lived here, DelDOT does a great job. The secondary roads, eh, it’s a little iffy, but there’s a lot to plow,” Brady said.
But others, like Emmanuel, said the town could be doing more. He pointed to a snow covered, icy sidewalk in front of his sister’s house that he wishes the town would have shoveled.
“I fell twice because they’re not doing a good job,” Emmanuel said. “It’s kind of getting hard and people can’t even move.”
But Dvornick emphasized it does ultimately fall on the property owner to clear up any snow in front of their home. And if you live in an apartment, snow removal is the complex’s responsibility.
“It’s the property owner’s next responsibility to get the sidewalks in front of their homes,” Dvornick said.
