The Delaware Department of Corrections offering tattoo career pathway
SMYRNA, Del. – The Delaware Department of Corrections is offering new options after imprisonment. The ‘Tattoo Artist Career Pathway’ offers apprenticeship opportunities for inmates in the Delaware jail system.
The aim is to support rehabilitation, protect inmate health, and save healthcare costs. The James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Sussex County will be the first facility to implement the program.
DOC Deputy Commissioner Shane Troxler hopes this will set incarcerated individuals up for success when they re-enter the community.
“I can see this taking off and leading us to challenge other status quo’s. We have to challenge ourselves to push the boundaries to make sure re-entry opportunities are available.”
Officials hope to expand the program to other facilities across the state.
