Sussex County Building Moratorium Request
Sussex County, Del.- Newly elected Sussex County Councilman Matt Llyod is calling for a building moratorium.
The proposed twelve-month moratorium would apply to agricultural residential lands including those with five or more homes and major subdivisions.
During Tuesday’s council meeting, citizens expressed concerns in public comment saying halting new construction may negatively impact the job market.
Councilman Lloyd explains more about what he expects from this moratorium.
Lloyd says, “What I’m talking about is the administrative pause on processing new applications. So it’s not to ultimately wholesale deny them after twelve months but to capture what changes the voters demanded this election.”
Council members didn’t vote on the matter in Tuesday’s meeting and instead are planning to revisit it at the meeting at the end of January.
