Patrick Henry’s “Reflection from Home” exhibit grand opening
Exploring the Eastern Shore
EASTERN SHORE, Md. – One local artist is using his relationships with the natural world to pay homage to his home and capture the essence of the Eastern Shore.
Person behind the Paintings
“Reflections on Home” opened to the public on January 17th. in downtown Salisbury, and it was worth going to explore the exhibit and speak with the person behind the paintings.
72-year-old Professional Artist Patrick Henry has been painting since the age of 5. He started with simple drawings and progressed to watercolors and oil paintings. “I was born and raised here, I built my career, I love painting… I’m more into nature, I’m more into looking at the higher aspect of man, and that’s what inspires me.”
Inspiring the Youth
Over the years, he’s taught youth from middle school to college and hopes his exhibit “Reflections on the Shore” can inspire the upcoming generation. “I’ll never forget it, I sold my first painting when I was 16, and it was an abstract oil painting… Young people don’t have a lot of barriers put up yet, and they, they just absorb and take what they see and run with it.”
“Reflections on the Shore”
The exhibit consists of 25 oil paintings of people, places, or things, that express how Henry looks at the world. The Museum of Eastern Shore Culture at Salisbury University is glad to provide the community with a bit of diversity.
Patrick says he hopes one can appreciate the yearlong journey he’s painted to depict the Shore. “It was really about the transformation that I had seen in this region as a person that was born and raised here. But as the series went on, I saw that I was starting to transform in the way that I looked at a lot of the things that were going on.”
