OCFD chief asks residents to shovel around fire hydrants

DELMARVA. – Fire officials are asking everyone to be helpful and try clearing the snow from around fire hydrants.

If you own or a rent a home with a fire hydrant in your front yard, Ocean City Fire Department chief, Richard Bowers said it helps your local first responders if you clear out the snow around it, so it’s visible to them in case of an emergency.

“With the snow we have and the plowing that is going on, if you have a hydrant nearby, please either mark it or shovel it out. Marking it means putting something in it that lets us know that there’s a fire hydrant there, red flag or a stick or something,” chief bowers said.
