Naked man arrested after causing chaos in Ellendale restaurant
ELLENDALE, Del. – Patrons at an Ellendale restaurant got more than what they ordered Tuesday night after a man was arrested for running through the establishment naked and allegedly trying to attack people.
WMDT News obtained the court documents this morning from the incident which took place shortly before 6 p.m., Tuesday at the Southern Grille on Main Street in Ellendale.
According to the arrest warrant, Delaware State Police were called to the restaurant for reports of a naked man inside who was trying to stab patrons. Police arrived and found the man, later identified as William H. Hicks Jr., inside. When he didn’t listen to troopers’ commands, police deployed their taser and he was taken into custody.
Several witnesses were interviewed by police, according to the court documents, where they describe a scene of chaos. One witness claimed Hicks struck them in the face while another says he was going up to multiple tables trying to eat their food without clothing on.
After he was arrested, Hicks was taken to a local hospital where court documents state he told nurses that he did not know how he got to the restaurant or why he was naked, and that he only smoked marijuana.
Hicks is facing a slew of charges including multiple counts of indecent exposure.
