Lewes parking lot crash leaves one dead, police investigating

LEWES, Del. – Delaware State Police say a parking lot crash claimed the life of one in Lewes Thursday afternoon.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., police say a black 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee was driving southbound in the parking lot of the Weis Markets, located at 17232 North Village Main Boulevard. A pedestrian was reportedly walking westbound in the same parking lot, crossing the travel lane in front of the Jeep. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Jeep allegedly continued driving and hit the pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a 63-year-old Milton woman, was taken to an area hospital where she later died from her injuries.

The driver of the Jeep, an 86-year-old Lewes man, was not injured.
