QUEEN ANNE’S COUNTY, Md – Two people were killed in a mobile home fire on Fox Meadow Road Wednesday afternoon. At approximately 2:00 p.m., a passing school bus driver spotted the fire and called 911. Firefighters from the Queen Anne-Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding units arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames. After extinguishing the fire, they discovered the remains of two victims, later identified as 83-year-old Margarete Brown, 83, and her son 63-year-old Larry Brown.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Family members told investigators the victims had recently purchased a new kerosene heater to replace an older one. Seven kerosene heaters were found among the debris, though it is unclear how many were in use. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct a formal investigation into the cause and manner of death.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal urges caution during the winter months, emphasizing fire safety measures like checking smoke alarms, having an exit plan, and ensuring heating devices are used safely.
