Governor Wes Moore criticizes Trump Administration’s freeze on federal funding

Maryland  — Governor Wes Moore expressed strong disapproval on Tuesday over the Trump administration’s decision to freeze federal funding for several state and local programs.

The freeze, which halts the disbursement of certain federal funds, threatens delays in critical state projects, limits essential services, and disrupts programs that rely heavily on federal dollars.

“This freeze is a mistake,” Moore said in a statement to ABC Affiliate WMAR News. “The decisions made today do not make sense. They are emotive, irrational, and not thought out. It’s chaos, and we have to ensure that we are protecting the people of our state. These decisions from the White House will not go without a response from us.”

Moore’s remarks came after a U.S. District Court Judge temporarily blocked part of the freeze. The court ruling specifically applies to federal funds that have already been designated for distribution, allowing those funds to continue flowing for the time being.

The freeze on federal funding comes as tensions between the Trump administration and state officials have escalated over various issues. Critics argue that the halt in funds could deepen the financial strain on already underfunded state services, particularly in areas that depend on federal assistance.

The freeze is expected to have broader implications, affecting not only Maryland but also other states that rely on federal grants and funding for local programs.
