Emerging Leader: Peter Barclay

WMDT – It’s Monday and that means it’s time to introduce you to a new emerging leader.

Peter Barclay is chair of the Cambridge Yacht Club’s Volunteer Sailing and Regatta.

He was recently awarded the Volunteer of the Year award at the Heritage Awards for his contributions to supporting the area’s local history and tourism.

We sat down with Barclay to discuss this accomplishment and where his passion for service began.

We’re told he always loved sailing since he was a child, and he hopes that they can grow their sailing program to include more of the younger generation.

Barclay says it’s important that the sailing scene in Cambridge is highlighted because it has a really strong tradition linked to the water.

Their tagline is “water moves us” as Dorchester County has the only deep-water port on the eastern shore and 2nd deepest in the state.

He tells us he is happy his hard work is being celebrated, but none of his efforts to expand the sailing scene would have been possible without the help of others.

If you want to get involved, Peter Barclay says that you don’t have to be a Sailer as there are a variety of things you can do to help!

He says it’s more about hospitality and making everyone feel welcomed.

If you know someone who would make a great emerging leader, you can send us your recommendation at newsroom@wmdt.com
