Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office warning of scam

DORCHESTER CO., Md. – The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of an ongoing scam.

We’re told the potential scam attempts target those using the Inmate Search feature on the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office mobile app. Scammers may reach out, falsely claiming they can help with releasing a loved one or cover court fees in exchange for payment.

Deputies said that bail, court fees, and other payments cannot be made with gift cards, cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, or unconventional payment methods. Officials will never request money or personal information through unofficial channels.

If you receive a suspicious message or call, you should not engage or send payment.
