DelDOT offering reimbursements for damaged mailboxes

DELAWARE. – With all the plows out on the road, your mailbox may have fallen victim to a snow ambush.

The Delaware Department Of Transportation wants to make sure you’re properly reimbursed if your mailbox is damaged by one of their snowplows.

If you’re a Delaware resident whose mailbox sits close to the road and was impacted by a plow, DelDOT director of community relations, C.R. McLeod said you can seek reimbursement through the state.

“We certainly don’t intend to create a headache for our residents while we’re out clearing roads; we know that it does happen and it’s not the homeowner’s fault,” McLeod said. “We certainly accept responsibility for that damage and anybody that has a damaged mailbox can seek reimbursement through the state insurance coverage office.”

To file a claim, you can call 877-277-4185 or email InsCov@Delaware.gov.
