Delaware’s Department of Justice helps ease residents concerns with “Know Your Rights” guidelines
DELAWARE- Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings recently released “Know Your Rights” Immigration guidance.
Resident’s Rights
This is Delaware’s Department of Justice’s way of showing their commitment to public safety, the rule of law, and the dignity and rights of all residents- regardless of immigration status.
The guidance is meant to address confusion and provide vital information to individuals on their constitutional rights during interactions with federal immigration officials.
Education vs Misinformation
Director of Communications for the DOJ Mat Marshall says although they don’t offer legal advice, they are trying to help people before they become confused, scared, or misinformed. “Dealing with immigration enforcement, to clarify, people’s constitutional rights which are unaffected by any President’s executive order.”
He goes on the say, “The role of State and local law enforcement as it stands in Delaware today, is the enforcement of the laws of Delaware, and the protection of public safety.”
Ignoring Immigration Intimidation
Attorney General Jennings went on record saying in part quote:
“Our immigration system is undeniably broken, but fear-based policies are not the answer… I will not tolerate violent crime in Delaware, but neither will I be intimidated or deputized for terror raids. Our job is to ensure all residents, our neighbors, coworkers, and friends—feel secure and valued under the law.”
