Del. Charles Otto hopes to funnel funds into public safety

MARYLAND. – Maryland lawmakers are working to solidify the 2026 fiscal budget, under a $3 billion deficit.

Bolstering the economy and creating a pipeline from classroom to career have been at the top of the agenda list this legislative session. Governor Wes Moore has proposed $5 million for the department of labor.

Meanwhile, Delegate Charles Otto said he’s focused on funneling money into public safety, starting with Eastern Shore Correctional Institute.

“We’ve had meetings with the Secretary of Safety, and we’ve communicated with the governor, and Somerset County Commissioners have been active to have a meeting there with them and it’s just a strain on the whole system,” Delegate Otto said.
