BERLIN, Md. – Fire crews battled a large outside fire in Berlin on Wednesday.

Firefighters were called to the 900 block of Bass Lane at around 11 a.m. for a reported outside fire that had extended into a box trailer and two car garage. Fire units from numerous companies, including Berlin, Ocean Pines, Showell, Bishopville, Newark, Powellville, Ocean City, and Willards all responded, as well as the Maryland Forestry Service.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, which was determined to have been caused by a homeowner burning a pile of debris, which quickly got out of control. The high winds and low humidity reportedly added to the quick spread of the fire.
