City officials in Milton are planning ahead of potential disasters

"Flood Funds"

MILTON, De. – The town of Milton has been a known flood hazard area, and city officials have stepped up to ease the minds of their residents.

In 2024, the town was named in the Water Resources Development Act that has passed both the House and Senate and is awaiting Biden’s signature, according to the Town Mayor John Collier.

He says Milton has a river right in the middle of town and they’re just one flood away from a disaster, and they’re trying to get ahead.

“What that bill does is that ensures that Milton will receive a significant amount of federal funding for a feasibility study to build resilience to flooding… Flooding is not something we can stop, but we can certainly put measures in place.”

Mayor Collier says they haven’t had a major flood since 1962, but because they are in a flood hazard area, it’s best to be safe than sorry.
