City of Dover experiences technical difficulties, loss of data

DOVER, Del. – The city of Dover is working to recover data, after officials said they had a major tech issue.

Last week, city officials noticed technical issues in its data system. Some other city systems were impacted as a result, including payroll.

Officials emphasized it was not a data breach. Emergency management coordinator, Kay Sass told WMDT they’re working to get all the data back in order.

“Even once the full restoration is complete, we’re only going to be able to capture data up to a certain point,” Sass said. “We’re hoping that data point will be January 14th, and then we’ll have to manually put in that data from the 14th to whenever that date is that we fully restore.”

Because of the data issue, the city has not been able to reimburse residents for wastewater bills. Sass said there would be no other impacts to residents.
