Bethany Hall-Long sworn in as Delaware’s 75th Governor

DOVER, Del. –  The cold weather and wintery conditions didn’t stop dozens of Delawareans and elected officials from turning out to the Old State House in Dover this afternoon where a ceremonial swearing-in was held for Bethany Hall-Long who will now serve out the rest of Carney’s term as the 75th Governor of the State of Delaware.

While Hall-Long will only serve until later this month when Governor-elect Matt Meyer is sworn in, she vowed to make the most of that time.

“I just have to say that it is truly an honor to transition between again Governor Carney and Governor-elect Meyer,” Hall-Long said. “But, in that period of time, we are going to continue to do some thing that are really important.”

During her address, Hall-Long talked about her time as Lt. Governor and how there’s still more work to be done.

“I am optimistic for the future as we transition between administrations that we will build on some of our major successes as first in America: the first overdose system of care, first creative arts economy study, first cancer treatment program, first smart food AI driven program to address food insecurity/waste, first state to lower overdose death rates, and so much more,” Hall-Long said. “There is more to do, and I’m confident Delaware will be a leader in many of these and other areas as we bridge the past to the future.”

Now, with just two weeks left in elected office, Hall-Long said moving forward it’s important that everyone come together and show unity in a political climate across the country that has been quite the opposite.

“Delaware is a unique and wonderful place where our shared values transcend politics,” Hall-Long said. “We know that there is so much more that unites us than divides us, and given the climate outside our state, it’s more important than ever that we come together to accomplish great things for everyone.”

Hall-Long will serve the remaining two weeks of Carney’s term before Governor-Elect Matt Meyer is sworn in on January 21st.
