Worcester Co. Sheriff’s office warns public on phone scams

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – The Worcester County Sheriff’s office wants residents to start the New Year right by avoiding phone scams.

Right now, scammers are calling residents, claiming they have an outstanding warrant or have missed a court appearance, and demanding money or gift cards in exchange.

Sheriff Matt Crisafulli said you should never give out personal information and always report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement.

“When it comes to scams, do not give out personal information over the phone,” Sheriff Crisafulli said. “We continue to implore our residents to not click on suspicious links on text or email, and if they have any questions, if they think that they may owe money to a company, call the company directly.”

Worcester County residents who think they may have fallen victim to this scam can contact the Sheriff’s Office at 410-632-1111.
