Wicomico County Public Schools to implement weapon detection system
Wicomico County, Md. – WCPS Public Schools will be using detection systems starting December 9th. This is being done to advance security for sporting events and after-school activities
People going to these gatherings must be screened. Any person who refuses to be screened will not be permitted to enter the WCPS property.
Director of Communications, Paul Butler said the county will continue to push education and safety to the forefront.
“This is our way of getting ahead of the curve, being one of the few districts on the eastern shore to employ a weapons detection system. You never know, what’s going to happen, so want to be proactive to stop weapons systems from coming into our schools.”
Butler said they anticipate delays entering extracurricular events. WCPS asks that the community remain patient as they work with the new procedures.
