The mayoral election runoff is December 3rd, and both candidates are making a final push
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – The Cambridge runoff election will end on December 3rd. Cambridge Commission President Lajan Cephas is facing off with former Mayor Andrew Bradshaw. The candidates spoke with WMDT about the final hours heading into the election.
Cephas feels like she has the personality to succeed in the role. “Why put off tomorrow, what we can do today. I always execute with a high level of energy and execute immediately.”
With current Mayor Steve Rideout going into retirement. Bradshaw would be honored to take his position. “I know his heart is going to be staying here, so I hope to continue that legacy of service while also forging my path.”
Bradshaw resigned as mayor in 2022 after pleading guilty to criminal counts for revenge porn. Cephas was at one time, charged with assault; she was later exonerated. Cephas believes Bradshaw is not cut for the position.
“As far as the other candidate, he doesn’t have that experience. He was only in office for a year, until he decided that he wanted to resign as mayor. Not as a retirement but as a resignation.”
Bradshaw tells WMDT, that he believes the same. “My opponent’s campaign has gone a bit lower than I expected. We avoided that and we want to focus on the issues of Cambridge. What will we do to move Cambridge forward?”
Ultimately, Cephas and Bradshaw are hoping voters turn out to cast their ballots. “Tomorrow is an important day, there are many multi-million-dollar projects on the table. We’ve worked hard with the council, so we can move the city in the right direction.”
Bradshaw has one final message to his supporters. “No matter what happens tomorrow, I just look forward to serving the people of Cambridge. To make our city the best place to call home and move forward.”
Back in October, neither candidate received 50 percent of the vote required to win.
Cephas received 42% and Bradshaw brought in 40% of the vote. Voters can cast their ballots at 447 Race Street from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. December 3rd.
