Stephen Decatur football team snags championship win, hoping to snag championship rings
BERLIN, Md. – For the second time in the school’s history, the Stephen Decatur Seahawks are celebrating last season’s tremendous victory.
The school has a 28 -0 record across two seasons and head coach, Jake Coleman said his team has secured its spot in Maryland football history.
“They did something with comeback wins in the last two weeks that a lot of high school teams can’t do and don’t ever do,” Coleman said. “To go back-to-back 28-0, it’s special. I know it’s a bond that those kids will have forever.”
Senior Davin Chandler has been a part of two historical wins at his high school. He told WMDT before he leaves small town Berlin for the big show at Vanderbilt, he wants to see that his team gets rings. Championship rings, to be exact.
“Just keeping that with me to think about memories, all the hard work we did, all the late nights we did, just staying after, throwing together, team bonding, it’s really special to me; it’s a good brotherhood,” Chandler said.
The custom rings will cost about $200 dollars each, totaling to $23,000 to get one for each member of the squad. Coach Coleman is calling on the community for support to help them get these priceless mementos.
“It’s something that just reminds you of what hard work, commitment, brotherhood, and it reminds you of a special moment in time that was yours forever,” Coleman said.
