UPDATE: Single vehicle crash near Ellendale leaves one dead

ELLENDALE, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash near Ellendale Wednesday morning.

Around 9:55 a.m., a Honda Accord was traveling northbound on Dupont Boulevard, north of East Robbins Road, when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off the road. The car traveled a short distance before striking a tree.

The 37-year-old female driver, a resident of Ellendale, was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. A 38-year-old man from New Castle, Delaware, who was an unrestrained front seat passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Dupont Boulevard was closed for about three hours as authorities investigated and cleared the scene.
