Queen Anne’s wins girls bracket championship at 2024 Governors Challenge
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Queen Anne’s girls basketball team won their bracket championship in an overtime thriller versus Bethesda-Chevy Chase on Saturday afternoon.
A defensive battle throughout, the game was knotted at 18 at halftime.
The Lions were forced to play from behind in the 2nd half, but ultimately overcame a 7-point deficit to send the game to overtime. It was Laila Coles’ drive with just seconds left in regulation that tied the game.
In overtime, Sasha Barr gave Bethesda a 3-point lead on a long ball from the top of the arc.
Down by 3 with under 30 seconds remaining, Bea Holthaus scored on a give-and-go to cut Bethesda’s lead to 1. The Lions then stole the inbound pass and Holtahus scored again to take the lead.
The game ended with Holthaus blocking a shot on Bethesda’s final possession in overtime. She lead all scorers in the game with 19 points.
