Perdue Farms honors the fallen veterans of Wicomico County as part of ‘Wreaths Across America Week’
SALISBURY, Md. – At the Wicomico Civic Center, Perdue Farms and various organizations saluted fallen veterans in Wicomico County. As part of Wreaths Across America Week, Perdue drivers placed wreaths as a tribute.
The 7 remembrance wreaths were symbolically placed in honor of the 191 Wicomico County natives. Alan Perkins, a Marine Corps veteran; loves the significance of this event.
“This is a perfect event because, in today’s society, I feel like veterans are pushed to the side. They forget the sacrifices they made while leaving their families.”
This gesture is done across the United States. Co-founder of Operation We Care, Jeff Merritt loves giving back to the community. He can’t thank Perdue enough for putting this event together.
“There will be millions of wreaths, placed at thousands of locations across the country. Perdue is a part of this, and we are fortunate to have Perdue in our community.”
Jenkins feels like this event honors not only him but also those veterans he might not know, “I have been affected by losing brothers and sisters while I served, over in Afghanistan. It’s very near and dear to my heart, so, I think it’s a very good cause to always remember those who have fallen and made the ultimate sacrifice.”
Merritt is looking to host a similar event on December 14th, he asks that the community come out to support.
“We do the program out of Parsons Cemetery, so we’ll be there at 9 a.m. Saturday at the main entrance. It’s open to the public, so we encourage everyone to be a part of remembering our veterans and honoring their service and sacrifice.
Parsons Cemetery located at 912 North Division Street.
