Law enforcement warn against driving drunk during holidays
WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – Local law enforcement are sending out an urgent reminder to drive sober over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
Worcester County Sheriff, Matt Crisafulli said his office is working with allied partners to ensure safety on Maryland roads over the next week and a half.
On Christmas, there will be an increased police presence patrolling the county. Sheriff Crisafulli advises everyone to have their designated driver in place, to avoid being pulled over.
“This is all about prior planning. If people plan on ingesting alcoholic beverages at these gatherings, they have to have a plan in place prior to doing that, for their safety, and especially for the safety of others,” Sheriff Crisafulli said. “That’s having a designated driver or taking advantage of Uber or other transportation services.”
According to Maryland transportation officials, Christmas and New Years are some of the deadliest times on the road, with an average of 73,000 accidents on those days.
Sheriff Crisafulli encouraged his constituents to be a part of the change.
“We directly working together can lower those numbers. It would be nice to be able to report the number 0, but that’s obviously going to take a lot of work,” Sheriff Crisafulli said.
