Law enforcement prepping for Downtown Salisbury NYE ball drop

SALISBURY, Md. – New Years Eve festivities are meant for fun, but Salisbury Assistant Police Chief, Howard Drewer said safety needs to be a top priority when celebrating.

At this year’s ball drop, you can expect to see an increased police presence Downtown.

“We staff with extra staffing down to the ball drop area. We’ll actually have our command center and operation, along with additional officers down there amongst the public, as well as other surrounding areas,” Chief Drewer said.

If you plan to ring in the new year with some alcohol, Chief Drewer said you need to do so responsibly, and not get behind the wheel if you’ve had too much to drink.

“Once outside that footprint area, they have to adhere to all laws that say whether they can or can’t have alcohol on a premise,” Chief Drewer said. “Drinking and driving will not be tolerated, and that’s not just from the Salisbury Police Department, that’s from our other agencies, as well as the Sheriff’s Department, Fruitland and Maryland State Police.”

With a command center set up Downtown, Chief Drewer encourages anyone who has concerns while out enjoying their holiday to find or contact an officer.

“If you see a law enforcement officer and need some assistance, please let us know,” Chief Drewer said. “We’ll have an elevated amount of officers in the area. If there’s some issues or some concerns, please notify them immediately.”
