Georgetown man facing numerous charges following vehicle theft, pursuit
GEORGETOWN, Del. – A Georgetown man is behind bars on a list of charges stemming from a vehicle theft and chase early Friday morning.
At around 6:30 a.m., troopers were called to a residence in the 32000 block of Shoppes at Long Neck Boulevard in Millsboro for a report of a stolen vehicle. It was learned that the vehicle’s owner had started the car to warm it up before leaving for work and briefly went back inside. When the victim went back outside, the car was gone, in addition to personal items inside the vehicle.
At approximately 12 p.m. the same day, Delaware State Police found the stolen vehicle and tried to stop it at the entrance to Pot Nets Lakeside. The driver initially stopped but then fled, reportedly driving aggressively and committing multiple traffic violations. The chase was discontinued once Delaware State Police Aviation began tracking the car. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Keemie Adkins, eventually abandoned the vehicle in Avalon Woods, causing it to crash into a tree while a passenger was reportedly inside. Adkins was arrested after a brief foot chase, and no injuries were reported.
It was determined that Adkins had picked up the passenger, a friend of his, earlier that morning. The passenger allegedly asked Adkins to stop the vehicle during the chase but was not allowed to get out. A search of the vehicle led police to find drug paraphernalia and two baggies of suspected heroin, and a computer check revealed that Adkins has a suspended/revoked driver’s license.
Adkins was charged with first degree reckless endangering, disregarding a police officer signal, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled/counterfeit substance, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of theft under $1500, and multiple traffic offenses. He was held at SCI on a $15,440 cash bond on the charges related to the pursuit, and a $4,000 unsecured bond for charges related to the stolen vehicle.
