Emerging Leaders: Eric Thomas and Harmony Carter

WMDT – It’s Monday and that means it’s time to introduce you to two new emerging leaders!

Recently, Eric Thomas won a bronze medal as a state finalist at the Maryland State SkillsUSA competition and Harmony Carter earned first place for her media at the UMES Lower Shore High School Art Exhibit.

This morning, they’re both here to tell us more about getting recognized for their achievements by the Somerset County Board of Education.

SkillsUSA helps prepare students for careers by giving them the opportunity to compete in career related competitions that give them hands-on training.

Thomas says the best part of participating at a SkillsUSA competition is that you get to socialize and build friendship with other competing students.

Carter also placed 1st at regionals last year and she says it’s a nerve-racking yet cool experience.

They’ve been able to learn must-have skills like impromptu or improvised speaking which Thomas says may prepare him for a career in Sports Announcing.

Harmony tells us she is interested in attending culinary school after graduating.
