Christmas Eve fires leave one firefighter with minor injuries

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Ocean City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire on Tudor Road in West Ocean City on December 24, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Units from the Ocean City Fire Department, the Berlin Fire Company, and Ocean Pines Fire Department arrived on the scene to find smoke and flames coming from the rear of the residential structure. Firefighters quickly contained the fire, and all occupants were able to safely evacuate before emergency responders arrived.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury during the incident.

The Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office conducted an investigation and determined that the fire was accidental, caused by cooking on a deck enclosure.

The Ocean City Fire Department is reminding residents and visitors to always have an escape plan and ensure their smoke alarms are working. For assistance with checking smoke alarms, residents are encouraged to contact their local fire station.

“Smoke alarms and sprinklers save lives,” said the Ocean City Fire Department.
