CFES exceeds fundraising goal during Giving Tuesday
SALISBURY, Md. – It’s the most wonderful time of the year for 140 organizations around the Eastern Shore, that are collecting donations during this Giving Tuesday.
The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore set its goal high at $500,000, but CFES President, Erica Joseph said that figure is an easy feat, thanks to all the community players.
“This year in particular with the Hensen CFES challenge, where every $2 gets matched with an additional dollar, is meaning that all of those groups in Somerset County, all of those groups in Worcester and here in Wicomico are able to maximize those gifts by getting that extra contribution,” Joseph said.
One of those groups is the Christian Shelter. Their goal was $10,000 and by midday they had well surpassed it.
Executive director, Anthony Dickerson said the funds will go toward supporting the 54 families who are dependent on the shelter this season.
“I’m excited that the community has aided to our clarion call for the need of monetary donations, that’s going to help us a lot,” Dickerson said.
No goal is too big, and no contribution is too small, which is why Joseph encouraged anyone who is able, to take part in uplifting the local community.
“One of our mottos here is everybody’s a philanthropist, so Giving Tuesday is a perfect example of that,” Joseph said. “You can give $10 to one organization, you can give $10 to 10 organizations, but every dollar matters.”
