Weather Tidbits: Make Your Own Anemometer

This edition of Weather Tidbits will be discussing how you can make your own anemometer. An anemometer is a weather instrument used for measuring the speed of the wind. For this weather experiment, you will need four cupcake liners, a needle or a pin, a pencil, two cardboard strips, a spool, and thumbtacks. Place the spool onto a table, and stick the pencil into the spool with the eraser facing upward. Insert the cardboard strips into the eraser to make a plus sign. Then attach the cupcake liners to each side of the cardboard strips with the thumbtacks all facing in the same direction. Finally, attach the needle to the top of your anemometer to connect the strips to the eraser. You should now have your anemometer! The cardboard strips with the cupcake liners will spin faster as the wind gets stronger.
