U.S. Senate Candidates race in the First State
Housing, Healthcare, and High Prices
DELAWARE – Housing, Healthcare, and High prices are issues facing the people of Delaware, and on election day, voters want to be certain that the candidate they select can truly represent their interests, and their state overall.
Election Day is now just 4 days away, and in Delaware, voters will decide between Democratic Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester, Republican Eric Hansen, and Independent Dr. Mike Katz as their next U.S. Senator.
Lisa Blunt Rochester (D) – “I want the people of Delaware to know, I’m running for you. I’m running for us; I’m running for this country.”
Rochester says her Housing Supply and Affordability Act bill addresses many of the public’s concerns. “To be able to make sure that we deal with exclusionary zoning laws, things to be able to make sure we have a smart way of creating affordable housing… Our plan is really focused on things like, how do we lower the cost of goods and how do we also avoid corporations from price gouging because that also takes a toll on all of us.”
Rochester is a mother, grandmother, and go-getter. Rochester hopes to cap the cost of insulin to $35 for everyone and believes religious faith and reproductive health don’t supersede each other. “Making sure we have the care that we need, making sure that we allow people to make their own personal decisions and choices about their bodies, is a priority.”
Eric Hansen (R) – “Compromise shouldn’t be a dirty word. What we should be doing is having both the right and the left working together in a way that doesn’t happen today.”
Republican Eric Hansen says if elected he will start by creating a bridge across the aisle and says there are too many building regulations. The Hansen Tax Expand Reduction Act would force the government to become more efficient. “Reducing the time it takes to get a permit, by reducing the cost and all the regulations, and also, but things for the buyers, things like first time homeowners’ credits. Which I think are fantastic tax credits as well, but those credits aren’t going to work, if we simply don’t have the supply of housing… The federal government waste about a trillion dollars a year on programs that don’t benefit us. And if we spent that trillion dollars on things that make all of our lives better, we’d all be better off.”
Hansen is a husband, father, and hard worker. He says there are disparities in healthcare, and he wants better resources across the board. He says he is willing to vote against his party, if it is for the better of the citizens of Delaware. “It would save the country $670 billion over 10 years, just allowing Medicare patients to go to outpatient facilities instead of hospitals. a simple fix that can save almost a trillion dollars in 10 years. That’s the kind of things we have to do… It would be wrong of me to go against the will of the people here in Delaware, and therefore I will commit publicly on the record I will not vote for a federal abortion ban.”
Mike Katz (I) – “I am an independent to eradicate corruption and the influence of money from our government and to create a system that works for everybody.”
Running as an Independent is Mike Katz. With a degree in economics, he feels that lawmakers must address America’s debt. debt. “Educational opportunities and workforce development. We need tax reform that incentives businesses to invest, and also decreases barriers for business. We also need to make sure we have energy independence… Improving operational efficiencies of federal government and streamlining. Finally making sure that we have a balanced fiscally responsible budget.”
Dr. Katz is a pediatric anesthesiologist a family man, and a free thinker. With over 40 years in the Healthcare industry, he we need to take the politics out of women’s health. “We need to have a paradigm shift from treating the sick, to keeping us healthy. working on population health and community health… Every person’s individual healthcare is unique, and women’s health is a medical issue… and Bottom line, the government doesn’t belong in the position of determining individuals’ healthcare.”
May the Best Candidate Win
All 3 candidates say they are the best fit for the State of Delaware.
Dr. Katz says, “I’m the only candidate independent of party politics, I’m the only candidate independent of special interest and party money, and I’m’ the only candidate that’s Soley committed to serving the best interest of all Delawareans and all Americans.”
Rochester says, “I hope again they will see by what I have demonstrated, the things that we’ve delivered for Delaware, but also the things that we hope to do in serving Delaware with some bright hope.”
Hansen ends by saying, “If for no other reason, than you want to reduce the cost of living here in Delaware, and you want to simulate the economy, and you want to get more and better jobs, then please vote for me.”
Potential Plans
Lisa Blunt Rochester said she plans to continue to focus on climate change and energy efficient resources. Eric Hansen added that if elected he would create a Federal Task Force to address crime. Mike Katz said if elected to the Senate, he would establish an independent caucus to be created. Both Katz and Hansen say they are in favor of term limits, and Katz has even drafted legislation on the topic.
