Turkeys are still on the menu this holiday season
Turkey Time
MARYLAND -Thanksgiving is on the horizon, and it’s time for people to pick out their Turkeys, and a local farmer us what all the gobble was about ahead of the holiday season.
Turkey Time!
Camden, Md. – Whether is sausage links, ground beef, or just a big bird, T.A. Farms has all you could want and need. It’s holiday season and Justin at T.A. Farms says they have the freshest catch. “You only have one Thanksgiving a year, you want to have the best, and that’s what we’re providing… We’ll have turkeys from about 12lbs and that’s completely fresh that’s everything’s done. It would be like you got it in the grocery store. so, from around 12lbs some of the others will be in the 30lbs. range.”
Justin Palmer says the farm has been in his family for generations, and that’s also how they’ve kept customers for so long. “Last year we were around 5500 and this year we’re projecting to be around 6,000- 6200 which is pretty good increase for us. Most of our customers, their grandmom got their turkey from us, now their mom gets their turkey from us, and now they get their turkeys from us. We have a lot of families that buy bird from us and have for years and years.”
He says despite the economy, they have even more birds than last year, and that it’s best, when it’s farm fresh. “I think with people’s concerns on where their meat comes from, where their fruits and vegetables come from it’s really taken off, I think that people are really starting to pay attention… A fresh turkey that’s grown and processed here is going to be way better than a frozen bird you can get at a grocery store.”
T.A. Farms outsources their meat to various grocery chains and restaurants, and you can check out their website for more information. They say they are still taking pre- orders for the holiday season, but they run out fast so if you’re interested, visit their Facebook page or call them at (302) 492-3030.
Turkey Giveaway
Salisbury, Md.- Speaking of turkeys, not everyone can afford to purchase a fresh bird, so local organizations are helping to make the unlikely very possible this season.
The Recovery Resource Center has partnered with the state program “Safer, Stronger Together” that helps reduce barriers for families and make a healthier community. Lisa Campbell is the Executive Director at the Resource center, which she says helps those who have been addicted to drugs or other substances.
She says over 200 meals will be given away, and during the holiday season everyone should be able to sit and fellowship with family. “It’s going to put food on the table for a lot of families and help them be able to have more of a traditional type of dinner and some of them may need to eat it before Thanksgiving comes to. Thank goodness there are a lot more resources this time of the year because people are really struggling.”
The Turkey Giveaway will take place Saturday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at 502 Calloway Street, and at 911 West Booth Street from 1:00pm until gone. They say that anyone in need should come through, and no one will be turned away.
