Tunnel 2 Towers hold 5K Run/Walk to honor first-responders

Walk for Warriors

Lewes, De. – The Tunnel 2 Towers Foundation held its 5K Run & Walk Delmarva this morning at the Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes. Tunnel 2 Towers was created after 9/11 as a way to honor the families of brave individuals who gave their lives for the greater good.

Charles Burton President of I.G. Burton & Company says they are proud to be a part of something so important. “Freedom is not Free, and freedom is only provided, by the great military people who’ve kept us free. That’s why I really like this event… It’s very encompassing really. It’s our military, our police, our first responders. Everybody that quite honestly keeps us secure in America.”

Tachicha Hilliard and her 3 children have had to deal with the loss of Wicomico County’s Corporal Glenn Hilliard. She says without Tunnel 2 Towers, she would have been in a bad spot. “They were there notifying me hours after my husband passed away, that our mortgage would be paid off, and that they would be assuming the mortgage. Which they did!”

The Hilliard home was officially paid off in July, and Burton says, for many other families, they continue to do the same. “We live in a great country. We live in a great country because we’re free, and we’re free because of the people that fight for us to keep it that way.”

The Run/Walk was hosted by our Chief Meteorologist, Rich Wirdzek. Visit Tunnel 2 Towers’ website for more information on the work they do for the community, and the way they help families in need.
