Small Business Saturday is November 30th, and local businesses are encouraging members to shop local

SALISBURY, Md. – Small Business Saturday is at the end of this month and local entrepreneurs are gearing up for the big day, with the expectation there will be a big influx of customers and business. Bill Chambers, the president of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, said tons of people will come and support the local economy.

“Saturday is a great way for the community to celebrate and support small businesses, who rely on the holidays for as much as 40% of their annual sales.” Said Chambers.

One of the busiest shopping periods of the year, local small business owners are ready to give community members the most bang for their buck. This includes all types of deals and specials. The owner of Barefoot Baby Boutique, Martha Ogburn, said people are getting tired of online shopping. “On Amazon, it loses that 1-to-1 touch, and for me, my background being in nursing, I love to interact with new moms, you don’t get that kind of personalized attention.”

Small Business Saturday works with local shops and restaurants, TJ Ownby, the owner of Mad Hatter Cafe believes, these local shops are the backbone of the area. “Amazon doesn’t care about Salisbury, but Two Scoops, Mad Hatter, or Roadie Joes, we all try to give back to the community, any way that we can.”

Chambers wants to remind people that everything someone would need is right around the corner, “Antique dealers, small retailers, clothing shops, and shoe stores. You know, everything you need that you would buy online, you can buy right down the street at a local shop or store.”
