Shore Up Inc. seeks donations on Giving Tuesday to support Eastern Shore families in need
SALISBURY, Md. – Shore Up Inc. is hoping to bring in donations on Giving Tuesday through the Shore Gives More campaign. It’s an online giving event from the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore. Shore Up is a community action agency serving individuals and families.
“We provide services to low and moderate households in all nine counties on the Eastern Shore of Maryland,” says Shore Up Chief Communications Officer Julie Peters.
They do everything from helping to pay utility bills, to childcare for young children and even providing adult daycare services.
“We provide services that will make those low income households, make their lives a little bit easier,” explains Peters.
Officials say eligibility requirements are different for each of their programs. Shore Up even works with some individuals with incomes as high as $67,000 a year. The bottom line though is that they say if you need help, you should reach out and ask.
“We find that we have a lot of people who may be ashamed to ask for help. They’ve maybe fallen on hard times and they’ve never been in a situation like this before, but they’ve lost their job and they’re having a hard time finding a new one, something like that. We just encourage them to please ask for help,” says Peters. “If we can’t help you, we will find somebody who can.”
Shore Up began in 1965, with the agency celebrating their 60th anniversary next year. You can also learn more about Shore Up on their website here.
Giving Tuesday is December 3, but you can plan your donations through Shore Gives More as early as November 25. Visit the Shore Up Inc. fundraising page by clicking here.
