Phone scams on the rise in Worcester Co., officials send warning to public

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of yet another phone scam.

The department has seen an increase in scams where a scammer will call an individual and pose as a sheriff’s deputy, telling the resident they’ve failed to appear for court, and they owe a sum of money.

Sheriff Matt Crisafulli stressed to the community that his office will never contact residents to solicit funds and if you receive one of these calls you should report it to the department.

“If a law enforcement agency is calling saying you owe money, that’s a scam. That is not a law enforcement agency, law enforcement will never call saying you owe money,” Sheriff Crisafulli said.

To report a scam, call 410-632-1112.
