Official gives tips of proper turkey frying

DELMARVA. – There’re a little over 2 weeks left until Thanksgiving and fire fighters want you to be prepared before you deep fry that bird.

As deep-frying turkeys becomes more popular, Salisbury fire chief, Rob Frampton said taking precautionary steps can save you a call to the fire department.

Some safety measures include making sure you’re far away from your house and avoiding frying a turkey in your garage.

“Put the turkey in the pot, fill it up with water then take the turkey out, draw a line and that’s how much grease you should put in there,” Chief Frampton said. “A lot of people think they should put grease in first, then you put the turkey in, but then you get the overflow because it will boil up.”
