OCPD warning of phone scam

Scam Alert

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Ocean City Police are warning citizens of a recent phone scam in which the caller reportedly impersonates a law enforcement officer.

Police say some callers have reported receiving suspicious phone calls and voicemails from a law enforcement officer, telling them that they must contact the “officer/deputy” regarding time-sensitive legal matters. If the scammer is immediately able to contact the caller, they tell the caller that they owe a certain amount of money for a legal matter and request gift cards, wire transfers, or mobile payment apps be used to pay the fee.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call should hang up immediately and contact your local law enforcement.
