Mountaire Farms throws 30th annual ‘Thanksgiving for Thousands’
SELBYVILLE, Del. – Around 1,000 volunteers came together to pack meal boxes for the Thanksgiving holiday. This was because Mountaire Farms celebrated the 30th annual Thanksgiving for Thousands. Senior Care Manager for the farm, Zach Evans loves this time of year.
“We provide the groceries, we provide the chicken, we have the boxes donated and we bring together volunteers from all across the Delmarva Peninsula. They work hand-in-hand to pack 14,500 boxes that are then distributed to over 200 non-profit organizations.”
There were many reasons for volunteering, Adam Laplant was at one point battling addiction. He told WMDT, that volunteering for this event is crucial for anyone struggling or in need.
“As a child from a broken home, it wasn’t fun around the holidays. So, when people in the community can come together and provide for another child or family in need. You know, this is something amazing right here, we got over 1,000 people here handing out food.”
The boxes were designed to feed a family of four. Included in them were, Mountaire roasted chicken, canned corn, cranberry sauce, and yams. Over 200 non-profit organizations are set to receive the boxes. In attendance was Gabby Morgan who is Miss Delaware Teen. She appreciated seeing the community come out for a good cause.
“This is my first year working at Thanksgiving for Thousands. My dad worked at this company a few years ago, and he’s told me how big it is, I didn’t expect it to be this huge. It’s truly inspiring to see how much we do for the community.”
Evans wants to continue to positively impact the community, and he believes anyone can make a difference.
“If you represent a non-profit that you think could benefit from these food boxes, go to Mountaire.com, if you’re watching this and want to get involved go to Mountaire.com we’ll have a place for you.”
It is estimated, volunteers were able to pack around 14,000 food boxes. If you would like to learn more about the initiative, click here.
