Mothers Against Drunk Driving honors Delaware law enforcement agencies

DEWEY BEACH, Del. – Mothers Against Drunk Driving gathered in Dewey Beach on Thursday for an awards ceremony. The event was sponsored by State Farm.

The ceremony honored law enforcement across the first state as they work to combat impaired driving and keep Delaware’s roads safe. New Castle County Police, Ocean View Police, and the Delaware State Police were all awarded for their work to combat impaired driving.

The regional director for MADD, Bryan Clark-Braverman, hopes that this will end the issues of drunk driving that has devastated the state.

“MADD’s effort is to end impaired driving, and that starts here with our community, our community partners, our law enforcement partners, our office of highway safety partners and the community residents.”

Sharon Bryson, Director of the Office of Highway Safety, believes keeping Delaware’s roads safe is a huge priority.

“For example, we see an increase in pedestrian fatalities here in Delaware we increase the messaging, we increase the enforcements we work with all of our partners to ensure people can be as safe as they can be on our roadways.”

According to OHS’s Delaware Fatal Crash Summary, the First State has seen 115 traffic-related fatalities in 2024. Bryson wants to remind people that driving impaired is a serious problem that they will continue to focus on stopping.

“The messaging to the people about the dangers of impairment both behind the wheel and as well as walking impaired is really important just as a reminder if you’re going to have a drink or have a good time, you need to think of a responsible way to get home.”

The Office of Highway Safety plans to announce a new ridesharing later this month.
