Missed Opts hosts first ever community Victim Impact Workshop
LAUREL, Del. – Saturday in Laurel, a Victim Impact Workshop normally held in prisons was brought to the community for the first time.
The program aims to help those incarcerated view their crimes from different perspectives, focusing on forgiveness rather than retaliation as a path to healing.
With the new approach to outreach, organizers are hoping to reach young people and prevent crime before it begins.
“Young people that are out here and they’re experiencing some of the trauma in the community, whether they are participants of it or victims of it, how they can come and we can help give them the same education, the same information, the same awareness, and hopefully we can try to turn the tide.” said Missed Opts Inc. Executive Director Khalil Abdar-Rashid.
Missed Opts Inc. also provides resources for those reentering the community after being incarcerated.
