MDOT offering free rideshare credits for holiday season

MARYLAND – In 2023, impaired driving on Maryland roads claimed the lives of 132 people and injured over 2,400.

That’s why, this holiday season, the Maryland Department of Transportation has partnering with the Governors Highway Safety Administration to offer rideshare credits through Lyft.

All you have to do is open the Lyft app, choose ‘Payment’ and input “MAKEAPLAN2024” into the ‘Lyft Pass’ section.

All Marylanders are eligible for a $20 credit.

Officials say you should always have a plan before you leave the house, but if you don’t, it’s not worth taking the risk after drinking.

“If you do get in a situation where you wind up consuming and you’re not sure whether you should get behind the wheel, don’t do it. It is not worth your life. It is not worth the life of somebody else on our roads. There are so many great options, including our rideshare credit,” said Chrissy Nizer, Administrator with the MVA.

Last year, more than 13,000 people were arrested in Maryland for impaired driving, with over 12% of those arrests happening between Thanksgiving and New Years.
