Gov. John Carney hopes to leave office in good financial standing

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Return Day in Delaware is a time where elected officials from across the state take to Georgetown to bury the hatchet and come together, following an election.

Delaware Governor, John Carney, will be passing the torch to Democratic Governor elect, Matt Meyer.

Governor Carney spent two terms in office, focusing on issues like education, and shaping the First State’s economy to be more competitive. He said his successor will be walking into an office with a well-rounded and secure state budget.

“We’re leaving the state in really good financial position, so the budget is going to be very strong,” Governor Carney said. “There will be additional revenue to make investments in school buildings and community projects, so for a Governor coming in, that’s very important.”

Governor Carney will be transitioning to his new role as Mayor of Wilmington, Delaware.
