Former Berlin childcare worker sentenced for assault

Berlin Activities Depot

BERLIN, Md. – A former Worcester County daycare worker will spend 18 years behind bars.

Heather Ward was arrested earlier this year when she was accused of intentionally hurting an 8-month-old in her care while working at the Berlin Activities Depot. She entered an Alford plea in August to nine counts of misdemeanor second degree assault, meaning she did not admit guilt but admitted that there is enough evidence to convict her.

Ward was sentenced to ten years with all but two suspended for each count.
