Food Bank of Delaware holding drive-thru distribution events ahead of Thanksgiving
DELAWARE – Ahead of Thanksgiving, the Food Bank of Delaware will be hosting three drive-thru distribution events for those struggling to put food on the table during the holiday season.
The Food Bank began hosting mobile pantries monthly during the pandemic, but a lack of resources has forced them scale back to only a few times per year.
Even so, they’re prepared to serve up to 2,500 families at each distribution event–after serving 2,000 at each last year–with canned goods, fresh produce, frozen items and, of course, the big bird.
“We’ll really be looking at what we have in our inventory, and then we’ll be distributing out to the public. Distribution may be a bit different [at each event], but we are happy to say that we will be able to give out a turkey, one per household, to attendees,” said Kim Turner with the Food Bank of Delaware.
Pre-registration is encouraged but not required. Food will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
There will be one distribution event in each Delaware county:
- November 19, Dover Motor Speedway,1131 North Dupont Highway, Dover
- November 22, Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown
- November 26, 777 Delaware Park Blvd., Wilmington 19804
All events are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
