Fmr. Rehoboth City Commissioner charged in campaign sign theft investigation

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – A former Rehoboth Beach City Commissioner was arrested after police say he stole campaign signs.

According to Rehoboth Beach Police, last week, officers received a complaint that a candidate’s campaign signs had been removed on multiple occasions.

Police investigated and were able to identify the suspect as 78-year-old Richard Byrne, who they say was in possession of several of the stolen signs.

Byrne was arrested and charged with two counts of Theft Under $1500 and two counts of Criminal Mischief Under $1000. He was released on his own recognizance.

Byrne previously served as a commissioner for the City of Rehoboth Beach.
