Downtown Salisbury Parking Lot drama at a standstill
Parking Problems
Salisbury, MD – Well, the parking war that’s been happening in downtown Salisbury has finally come to a stalemate.
Gillis Gilkerson
Brad Gillis of Gillis Gilkerson, spoke with WMDT a few weeks ago about what he felt like was “a breach of contract” by the city of Salisbury, therefore entitling the company to treat lots numbered 1, 11, and 15 as their own.
Gilkerson put signs on the lots saying that parking would be prohibited after November 11. He also said they would build a fence to barricade their perspective lot. However, he informed us those plans are no longer taking place. When asked why they were no longer moving forward with those plans, he had this to say.
“We have had what we believe to be some breakthroughs in regard to our communication with the city of Salisbury. And because of that, we are happy to announce that we don’t need to disrupt the community any further right now.”
City of Salisbury
The mayor of Salisbury, Randy Taylor insisted that it was Gilkerson that was at fault and in breach of their original agreement. The City maintains that they have always been in the right in this situation. Mayor Randy Taylor wants to let the public know there’s nothing to be concerned about.
“I think we got it adequately worked out. I think that the developer misinterpreted his stance in the contract, we were able to file a TRO, we call it a Temporary Restraning Order, I think he withdrew his efforts to try and close off the parking lots.”
Mayor Taylor Monday will be business as usual and is open to the possibility of future collaboration. Brad Gills says he’s anticipating the November 21st Planning and Zoning Commision Meeting to plan their next steps.
