Community members trotting along for 3rd annual Diakonia Turkey Trot to raise money

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Diakonia hosted its 3rd annual Thanksgiving trot at the Ocean City boardwalk in hopes of meeting its goals for 2025. Diakonia, Executive Director Ken Argot was pleased with the turnout.

“We want to thank those who participated today. Those who came out to some crummy elements to run, we had over 350 to run this year.”

Diakonia is a Greek word, meaning in service to others. Thanksgiving morning, the Ocean City boardwalk was filled with over 300 runners and walkers to get some morning exercise ahead of the big dinners that await.

Diakonia board member, Susan Jones, believes this is a time to be grateful. “The best thing about this is it doesn’t matter what the weather is, it’s Thanksgiving; it’s a great day for everyone to get together we can all be thankful that we are alive and we’re here.”
Argot tells WMDT, the organization met their expectations for the fall fundraiser. “We raised 35,000 dollars for those in need, and we’re so excited for everyone’s help this Thanksgiving. There’s a lot of things we take for granted and for Thanksgiving, we sort of remember the blessings we do have.”
This is the 3rd iteration of the trot, Diakonia hopes the beloved event will continue to be a tradition for the community to enjoy for years to come. “We would love for this to continue to grow because it is a wonderful tradition. Whether you’re from here, or you’re visiting, it’s a great way to bring out the family. Get a little exercise before you shove a lot of food in your mouth.
